Using IP fabric, we can plan and execute many automation functions that integrates Fire, Access Control, CCTV, Public Address, Lighting and other automation systems easily. Each system can be independent, but there should be some sort of common interface or protocol that binds these systems to communicate easily between themselves. CMS is one such application, but these are very expensive since the cost of development can not be amortised over large number of installations. We can design a Black box that gets inputs from each system and processes it accordingly under some programmed rules. This is one way of looking at it. Another way of doing this is to use the digital information flowing on IP network from each IP device on the network, be it IP CCTV camera, IP Access Control System, IP voice communications etc using some common protocol by a common program. I am sure there are some applications out there for doing this.
